Fun Ways To Learn Spanish
Finding fun ways to learn Spanish is the secret to tapping into your child's unlimited capacity for learning.
The days of conventional language learning are long gone as there are so many ways to teach Spanish to a little one. No More repeating difficult grammatical terms over and over while trying to keep a kid's attention, or worse keep them awake!
I have found numerous fun ways to learn Spanish and my little one incorporates a little Spanish into his everyday life because it is fun. Read on to start the journey to bilingualism and be prepared to unlock the hidden potential of your little ones.
DVD's
DVD's are great for kids, stimulating all of their senses. They can become engrossed in a great story or lesson and can start repeating what they have heard in no time at all. I feel this is due to audio and visual stimuli creating an emotional connection which kids love.

CD's
CD's are a great way to learn Spanish, especially if pottering around at home or in the car. There are are CD's of Spanish nursery rhymes, narrated stories and Spanish lessons especially for kids available. Great for expanding Spanish vocabulary, definately one of my favourite fun ways to learn Spanish.
I have listed two web sites in this category as both sell different products. Both sites will have you singing and dancing for hours with your little one!
From this site, spanishtoys.com you can hear a sample of the music CD's before you purchase anything which I find extremely helpful.
This second site, littlelinguist.co.uk offers a variety of CD's. You have a choice of Spanish only, Spanish-English songs and CD's to teach kids Spanish. Some CD's do offer a sample of songs and book pages. Again, great for getting on the dancing shoes with the little one!
Bilingual Books
Every child loves a bedtime story and what better way to incorporate Spanish learning than with a great tale told in Spanish. Kids learn their native tongue through listening and to help your kids learn Spanish then I highly recommend reading to them from bilingual books.
When I first started doing this I could barely pronounce many of the words but as time goes on it does become easier. I found myself many times realising I had been reading the words to Lachlan which sounded more like double dutch than Spanish...it does help to have a laugh at yourself too.
Again, two sites you can have a look at, both offering different and varied choices.
This first site offers great story books to teach kids Spanish, some do have CD's with them which is always a bonus, especially if there are songs in the books. Helps with pronunciation and word recognition! Perfect for pre school. Spanish will become more and more familiar to little ears if exposed to it regularly and it will only benefit adults learners learning the language later in life..like myself.
**This site offers an age guide for bilingual and dual language books, and does go beyond pre-school age. littlelinguist.co.uk
This second site offers a wider range of books, including many childrens' favourites such as Bob The Builder, Disney, Winnie The Pooh, Dora The Explorer and many, many more. What I like about this site is that they stock Spanish-English workbooks, great for structured Spanish lessons for those older pre-schoolers. I'm always spoilt for choice on this site.
**Again products for older kids also. spanishtoys.com
Spanish Toys
Spanish toys are a good investment for your kids learning Spanish. Most popular brands such as VTech do toys in other languages.
I have bought Spanish laptops and little toys which give the alphabet for example in Spanish. Some of them play Spanish nursery rhymes at the touch of a button, there are little dolls which speak to the child, the list is endless. To teach kids Spanish variety is key so why not find something special for the little one while encouraging learning. I have found toys to be one of my better investments over the years, Lachlan just loves showing his friends and teaching them a little bit of Spanish too. All kids are into fun in a big way and this is another or the fun ways to learn Spanish.
A fun site for Spanish Toys is spanishtoys.com
Flashcards
Flashcards are another of the fun ways to learn Spanish.
Not only do they help with learning the langusge it also helps with connecting the picture to the written word. Just think of how many 2 year olds recognise the Macdonald's sign by that big M! I have spoken before about kids learning to read at an extremely young age using the flashcard technique, if this interests you then there is a technique you can use called The Glenn Doman Reading Method.
Flashcards are available in good bookshops and the above websites.
