Advertisementsare usually meant to achieve a specific purpose. The target of everyadvert is dependent on the specific thing that the advertisersdesire. In most cases, age, gender, religious affiliation and timeare the most considered variables of an advert. Advertisements areused to warn or educate the masses on a certain product. In severalcases, the chosen products are to have a positive impact on the livesof the target group and this is done in a way that is lessintimidating. Usually, adverts are applicable in direct lessons andthe required information is understood without much struggle. Thetarget population is addressed in the way they understand best andthe most appropriate method is employed. The approach of each advertis not similar. For children, the method that could be employed isdifferent from that of the parents. The design and the general viewof the adv can indicate the target group with its details. In thecases that are familiar, advertisements have always been used forcommunication purposes and this has been a point of discussion if theadverts communicate the required message to the target group in thecorrect manner (Christine, 2014).


Thechildren are not allowed to play cards against humanity. The advertbegins from the point that one little girl joins another at thetable. The two little girls appear to be drawing some things. Just asthe second girl who joins the table starts to draw, the parents startlaughing loudly. This draws their attention and they stop drawing.The girl who was initially at the table begins to talk as anotherlittle baby, a third child, who is close to the two girls but not atthe table drinks from the baby bottle. In this room, the total numberof children is three. From their own words, the children arelamenting that their parents are playing the game but they are notallowed to play. They then make fun about the game and say that theirparents swear like wieners then the three children in the room beginto laugh. At that instant, the scene then changes and the adv istaken to the table where the parents are playing the game. One of theparents is heard saying what their turn is up in heaven “ghost, oldpeople smell or dead parents” then they laugh. During thisconversation, the children eavesdrop and overhear their parentsspeak. One of the parents playing the game, after noticing that thechildren are eavesdropping, directs them to get to the kitchen thenthe door is locked. After the door is locked, the little child laughsagain. The elder girl who was initially at the table laments and saysthat the parents are so old. The younger girl, who joined the tablelater, then says that the game is supposed to be for children. Then,the elder girl says that their parents do not even realize they areold. In a quick change of scenes, they try to play the game but oneof the girls complains that she does not know how to play the game.She looks at the cards and reads the things she sees. Here, shequestions why Santa would give gifts to bad kids, then a monkeysmoking a cigar. The younger girl laughs and the elder tells her tostop being silly. She then repeats the statement of the monkeysmoking a cigar then they make a cunning expression with their faces.The advertisement is closed when a pack is shown and a voice is heardtalking about the availability of the packs. There is a warning justbelow the packs that they cards should be kept away from children.


Themain target of the adv is parents who find humour in playing thegame. From the ages of the children, the most affected parents arewomen and men who are in their early 30s. From the description, thechildren are not allowed to engage in the game and this is anindication that it is not for them. The parents find humour in thewords that the children are surprised at. They cannot understand whytheir parents are laughing and this makes the parents the maintarget. From this, the advertisement is made in a way to show thatthe game is horrible. To put a little disgust in it, it is indicatedthat it’s being horrible is comparable to the people that play thegame. This is aimed at ensuring they feel the disgust and stop. Thepossibilities that some children could be playing the game are slimto nil.


Thereare a lot of humour that is employed in the adv. In severaloccasions, the little child laughs at things he does not seem tounderstand but just the fun in it. The children are used to dice thegame since it does not make sense to them. From their conversation,they say that the game should be for children and not for the adults.Now here a case is presented that that in as much as they feel thegame should be theirs, they do not enjoy it. This should prove to theparents that they are playing a wrong game and should stop. The kidsare equally used to bring the fact that parents can do somethingbetter other than playing that game. As the advertisement starts, thekids are seen drawing. This is essential in leisure. In the entireadv, the major intention is to show how bad the game is. As theadvertisement is closed, this is confirmed and the message is passedto the targeted audience. The children get surprised at how theunrealistic some of the words are and this proves that the game isfictitious. The expectation of the children is not what they receive.This disappointment is shown on their faces when they cannotunderstand how the game is played. Perhaps they thought the gamecould be enjoyable. Before they tried to play, they said the gameshould be for kids, then after, they express disappointment on theirfaces.


Thetechniques used in the adv are very effective. First, the disgust inplaying the game has been put in the adv such that anyone who plansto play it again may consider their options. The last part of the advbrings the disappointing part where they compare the people who playthe game to the game itself. Then, from the analysis, the childrensay that the game is supposed to be for them yet they do not find anyhumour in it. This confirms that the game itself, regardless of theplayers is not interesting and should not be played by anyone. Theadv proves that little children can use their intellect minds tobring some sense into reality. The fact that the children can dosomething constructive with their time is a lesson to their parentson how they can spend theirs.


Insummary, the adv of cards against humanity is a game that focuses onsome fun which is aimed at making fun of people and situations. Inthe adv, it is evident that the children are not allowed to play.This fact leads to the issue of vulgarity in the game and brings inthe reasons why it should be avoided. The advertisement employshumour and making fun of the people who play it as horrible just asthe game. In this advertisement, the children used try to bring thehumour out of the game and making it look a little disgusting. Thetechniques used in the adv are properly thought and theirappropriateness considered. The game is not appropriate to be playedby anyone. The effectiveness of the adv is seen not only by thedisapproval of the children but also the nature of the game itself.The words that the parents were laughing at were not even amusing andthis shows it was not so interesting. The chances of the childrenplaying it are equally slim. The advertisement finds the target inthe right manner and it would be hard for them to ignore thepresentation.
