Many people are not aware of the direction theywant to pursue after graduating because of the increased competitionfor skilled individuals. However, if they planned their careers, thechallenges are minimal. A career plan consists of long-term goals,current skill set, and the problems to overcome to be successful inthe selected career choice.

My choice career plan is to be a collegeprofessor in five years. One of my long-term goals is to attain amaster’s program that I should complete within two years. I alsoaim to pursue a Ph.D. program and publish scholarly journals of mywork. I would like to work as an English professor at the collegelevel because I can discuss interesting topics with passionatestudents.

The essential skills of an English collegeprofessor include critical thinking, managerial skills, excellentcommunication, listening, and writing skills, be a highly flexibleindividual and computer skills. The minimum qualification for acollege professor is a master’s degree. I already possess a degreein English/Literature that allows me to work as a language teacher inhigh schools. Besides, my communication and computer skills arestandard. However, adequately to fulfill my responsibility as acollege professor, I shall need to attend training workshops duringmy leisure time when in graduate school, to understand the collegeenvironment and any technological changes (Gonyea, 2016). I shallalso have to teach as a part-time graduate assistant or work ingovernment institutions to attain the desired experience of a collegeprofessor as I do my research project and one year after completingmy master’s degree.

To become a successful college professor, I needto remain updated with the latest technology since most of theeducation programs are online (Enache, 2012).The occupation is demanding since some classes are on weekends andevening. Hence, it is important to be highly flexible. I believe thesupervisor for my research project can help me in achieving my careergoals as well as my friends who are currently pursuing their PhDs tobecome university professors.
