•Environmental Problems, Their Causes, and Sustainability

Describe why it is an importantissue

Environmental science is an important issue because it helps us toraise awareness of the activities that make the environmentunsustainable. Environmental problems are caused by pollution to thehabited and habitable eco-systems. Such pollution activities mayinvolve water, air, and soil pollution. It is a common phenomenonthat many waste effluents end up in this systems and thuscompromising the nature of this environments. Other causes ofenvironmental problems are ecological ignorance, population growth, and poverty. Therefore, in raising awareness to this widespreadproblem, strict measures, and necessary legislature are put forth tocombat the issue and restore the environment back to its formerglory. Sustainability ensures that these various systems can surviveand adapt to the environmental conditions indefinitely (Miller &ampSpoolman, 2010).

Describe how the issue personallyimpacts you

Obviously, theenvironment affects every individual or natural organism present inthe ecological niche. On a personal level, environmental problems area burden in that they may cause heath complications. For instance, soil pollution may affect the production of food and otheragricultural products and thus being felt at a personal level. Othercauses of environmental problems also impact on a personal level, inthe long run. The cost of restoring sustainability is also high and aburden to the tax payer.

Describe how you can be a part ofthe solution

By taking part inpreventing ecological ignorance, a solution point is created.Avoiding activities that pollute the environment is also a steptowards being part of the solution. For example, avoiding the use ofharmful pesticides and fertilizers will prevent soil pollution. Oneof the important things in devising a solution is creating awarenesstowards the benefits of environmental protection and the adverseeffects of environmental pollution.

• Science,Biodiversity, and Evolution

Describe why it is an importantissue

Biodiversity playsa major role in maintaining the ecosystems and thus sustaining theenvironment for the needs of the growing human population.Evolutionary changes have brought a range of ecosystem services thathave contributed to the hospitability of human life on planet earth.Additionally, humans have continued to exploit the environment invarious ways. Climate change, habitat loss, and pollution arecontinuing to play a key role towards evolutionary changes. Thismeans that we are jeopardizing our habits in the expense of survival. With the current world’s population of about seven billion people, there is more consumption and depletion of resources than the rate atwhich they are being created. Therefore, we are at the onset of amajor environmental evolution (Angeloni et al., 2012).

Describe how the issue personallyimpacts you

As a result ofthese evolutionary changes, species are disappearing, changing theirbehaviors and advancing into new areas with sufficient resources. Theinter-connection of all these factors impact on the survival of everyorganism, in the food chain.

Describe how you can be a part ofthe solution

By ensuring thatthe environment is protected from the harmful effects of pollution, asolution is created, and thus evolutionary changes will be beneficialto humans and other organisms in a positive direction. Protection ofthese ecosystems is the only way to prevent the uncertainties of amajor evolutionary change that might negatively affect the survivalof species.

• Biomes,Ecology, and the Human Population

Describe why it is an importantissue

Biomes are theworld’s main communities. They are classified according to thepredominant vegetation found in them and classified according to theadaptation of various organisms to that habitat. Biomes have beenaltered over the years, and thus, they have changed from theiroriginal states. On the other hand, ecology is a critical subject inthat it deals with the relationship of the organisms to theirenvironment and the political actions that seek to protect suchenvironments. The ever-growing human population has encroached theseecological biomes and altered their original states and hence leadingto severe implications. This is an important issue since it createsthe necessary awareness needed to prevent the exploitation of suchhabitats (University of California Museum of Paleontology, 2007).

Describe how the issue personallyimpacts you

The exploitationof these habitats leads to implications that are felt at a personallevel. For instance, pollution of marine environments leads to thedeath of organisms which form the food chain linked to human beings.Water is also an essential need for survival as it is used fordomestic purposes, and thus, its depletion might reduce the chancesof survival.

Describe how you can be a part ofthe solution

Participating inactivities that ensure pollution and exploitation are prevented, asolution point can be achieved. Lobbying for the prevention ofillegal timber logging is one of the major ways to combat thedestruction of such biomes. Educating people on the consequences oftheir actions is an open and effective mechanism towards theprevention of ecological pollution and ecological restoration.

• SustainingBiodiversity: The Species and Ecosystem Approaches

Describe why it is an importantissue

The ecosystemapproach is a conceptualized framework that integrates the managementof terrestrial, water, and living resources and aims in reaching abalance among the three goals that are: biodiversity conservation, its sustainable utilization and equitable distribution of suchbenefits. The approach takes into account that humans and theircultural diversities form a crucial link between other species andthe ecosystem. This issue is important because it will eventuallylead to the protection of the environment and its restoration (JNNC,2014).

Describe how the issue personallyimpacts you

The ecosystemapproaches will put stringent measures that will serve to prevent thedamage of ecosystems and thus enhance the sustainability of allspecies. The protection of all species from the dangers of pollutionwill bring benefits to a personal sphere. For instance, there will bea cleaner environment and thus promotion of healthy standards.

Describe howyou can be a part of the solution

Sustainingterrestrial biodiversity might involve certain approaches as adoptinga forest, planting trees and employing reconciliation ecology toestablish and maintain new habits.
