Theperiod in time when a college degree would guarantee middle -classentry is long gone. This is informed by the changing dynamics in theterrain of the job market. Opportunities have dwindled whileinnovations and creativity are what provide an edge between anindividual and other job seekers in the market. These two aspectsultimately determine one`s salary and commissions. The question thenarises if one requires a college degree to be creative andinnovative. The answer to this is clearly in the negative. It is truethat there are fields of expertise that demand one to have advancedcollege degrees to perform, such as medicine and engineering.However, most of the biggest innovations and creations around theworld today have been achieved by high school and college drop outs.This is informed by the fact that intelligence and wisdom are notnecessarily functions of education.

Creativityand innovation could be achieved through mere observation andexchange of ideas. Insight and resourcefulness are virtues that arenever taught in any university or college. However, thousands ofinnovators with little or no education continue to transform theworld. The world is aware of Zuckerburg, him of the Facebook fame. Heis a college dropout whose technological innovation has touched allaspects of people`s lives around the globe. Bill Gates is alsoanother college dropout whose innovations in computer technology havetransformed the whole world. Thousands of actors, actresses,songwriters and artists continue to come up with masterpieces that nouniversity can ever produce. One element that defines all thesepeople who have made it in their lines of endeavor is motivation.This combined with a sense of purpose has really proved that one doesto need a university degree to make it in their line of interests.All that is required is drive and passion to that which one sets eyeson.

Thousandsof other individuals around the world have great entrepreneurialinsights in spite of a lack of college degree. Transformative ideashave been demonstrated through entrepreneurship and have gone on tobe big business ventures that influence millions of people around theworld. Innovations and ideas that are solely founded on individualmotivation and pure passion have become a common characteristic ofthe world of commerce. Ali Baba, founded in 1999 by Jack Ma and basedin Hangzhou, China is probably the world`s biggest online commercecompany, with its shares retailing at $72 at NYSE. All these examplesare just but a few of those that confirm that the greatest ideas andinnovations ever in the world required little or no education toimplement.

Ithas also been found out that a lot of people spend a lot of time incollege studying for programs they don`t really need. This is more soin humanities and social sciences such as human resources, businessadministration, and marketing. From most reliable data in variouscountries of the globe, the best sales people have had theirexperience through on-job training and not necessarily determined byeducation level. The desire to learn and the power of observation aresome of the major virtues that have been considered to inform successin such fields. The strides made in such fields have further addedweight to the argument, &quotIs the value of college degree worththe cost?&quotThere has been no tangible evidence that suggests thatdesire to succeed in one`s area of interest is derived solely fromhigher education. Different sources of information continue toindicate that those with little or no education have a relativelyequal chance to achieve it in different sectors especially inbusiness and the creative industry.

Manypeople with college degrees have completely failed to make anytangible impacts in their societies and some even rely on socialwelfare programs for survival. This goes on to solidify the basis ofthe argument. It also confirms that the value of college degree isnot worth the cost. Individuals need a more reliable motivation sothat they can harness the gains of a college degree. It would serveright if an individual is committing to a specialized line of skillsin science or engineering, but a total waste of resources if doing soin general areas.

Nevertheless,education has been known to advance other aspects of an individualthat no creativity or talent could be of much help. Education and acollege degree, in particular, polish an individual and instillconfidence making such a person be able to function better withinsocieties. This actually forms the basis for the acquisition ofleadership positions. The individuals are more articulate, moreconvincing and hence could easily mobilize or perpetuate ideas withincommunities. They are more confident and flexible. Education has alsobeen known to enhance family values in individuals. Most availabledata indicate that people with a college degree are more stable andcommitted in their marriages than those without. They are equallybetter parents and are more concerned about the welfare and future oftheir families (Owen and Isabel 210). They have also been found topay much more attention to their health and nutritional needs.Reliable data also indicate that people with a college degree aremore committed to their work and hence more productive. They have abetter quality of lives and therefore live longer on average thatthose without college degrees. This is mainly informed by the factthat they are more concerned about their health and that of theirentire families. Generally speaking, individuals with college degreesare more sensitive to the quality of all their needs at a given timeand are meticulous in all their activities and responsibilities.

Inconclusion, whereas a college degree plays a significant role inadvancing different aspects of human endeavor, its value is not worththe cost. Most of the funds committed to the acquisition of collegeeducation are sheer wastage, which ultimately does not reflect muchon the income levels of the individuals. Only areas that requirespecific skills and higher education such as medicine and engineeringare probably worth the cost. Exposure to enriching environments andreasonable resources mobilizations have the potential of triggeringinnovations, unearthing creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that nocollege degrees could ever achieve.
